What's "exposure"? It's a determination of how much airtime, if any, a contestant received prior to the start of the semifinals, and it's part of our ongoing Idolmetrics study. Each contestant is assigned to one of five levels:

N=None
...the semifinal performance was the first time (for all intents and purposes) anyone heard him or her sing. Example: Latoya London -
M=Minimal
...the contestant was heard singing only briefly – a snippet of an audition, a group performance in Hollywood, etc. Example: Bo Bice -
H=Hollywood
...the contestant's first significant airtime was in Hollywood (or immediately after; e.g. the S3 "Best Of The Rest" episode.) Should be at least a solo performance or an extended feature in a group performance. Example: Elliott Yamin -
A=Audition
...the contestant's audition was aired fully plus perhaps a brief interview/intro clip with Ryan, but all without too much fanfare. Example: David Cook -
P=Promo (or Pimping, if you prefer)
...the contestant had a significant, in-depth promotional/backstory piece aired in addition to his or her audition. Example: Constantine Maroulis
